As another year of teaching, learning, scholarship and service comes to a close, please know that it has been a true privilege to serve as your acting dean – and that I am honored and humbled to continue doing so for another year.
I remain profoundly grateful for this opportunity to participate in leadership throughout the college and across campus, something that has only deepened my appreciation of this great university.
Our May 3 Celebration of Excellence put a smile on my face; congratulations to all of our award winners, and especially to Dr. Half-A-Century: Gaylen Kapperman.
We are fortunate to have had Kapp as a colleague since 1974, and as I said that morning, I am in awe of his fierce and tireless advocacy for his students, his program and his grant work. I’m also glad that President Freeman and Kapp’s daughter, Gretchen, were able to join us. What an amazing career – and it’s not over!
Now, as the temperatures are climbing and signs of summer seem right around the corner, please remember to go outside for fresh air and sunshine, do what makes you happy, take care of yourselves and those you love and express thanks for what is important in your life.
Please reach out at any time if you need us – we’re here for you! – and know that I’m already looking forward to seeing you all in August for the All-College of Meeting and another semester of success.
