Congratulations to these members of the NIU College of Education family!

Tiffany Puckett, assistant professor in the Department of Leadership, Educational Psychology and Foundations, was nominated and voted in as a member of the board of directors for the Education Law Association.

Based in the United States but international in scope, the nonprofit association offers unbiased information to a wide range of professional members about current legal issues affecting education and the rights of those involved in education, in both public and private K-12 schools, as well as in universities and colleges.

Puckett has served in several capacities during her 10 years as an ELA member, including being invited to speak on the social justice panel at the last two annual conferences, most recently in Orlando, Fla.

She joined NIU in 2019.

Carrie Kortegast, associate professor in the Department of Counseling and Higher Education, was elected by the NIU Faculty Senate to serve as its next faculty personnel advisor.

She began that role Wednesday.

The faculty personnel advisor’s role includes activities such as:

  • Advising faculty members about the personnel policies and procedures within the university and the courses of action open to them.
  • Advising and assisting faculty members who are experiencing difficulties with the personnel process.
  • Advising and assisting faculty members dissatisfied with personnel decisions.
  • Observing the workings of the personnel process and recommend needed changes or clarification.
  • Advising faculty members pursuing the resolution of other concerns or issues.
