NIU hosted 216 students contemplating careers as educators for the Oct. 19 Educators Rising Mini-Conference.
Dean Laurie Elish-Piper welcomed the students to the Carl Sandburg Auditorium, where she introduced keynote speaker Kimberly Radostits, the 2022 Illinois Teacher of the Year.
Students also participated in breakout sessions, heard a panel discussion featuring current NIU students and took campus tours.
The event was organized by the Office for Student Success, School District U-46, Community Unit School District 300, the Northern Kane County Regional Vocational System and the Elgin-based Alignment Collaborative for Education (ACE).
High schools represented were Dundee Crown, Elgin, Larkin, South Elgin, Larkin and Streamwood.
