Members of the NIU Physical Education Young Alumni Network officially kicked off a mentorship program in the fall – and it’s already thriving.
Forty-five alumni mentors are now working with current P.E. majors, sharing advice, stories and support.
“It’s been inspiring to see the connections forming,” says Zach Wahl-Alexander, EC Lane and MN Zimmerman Endowed Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education.
“We’ll be growing the program again next fall, so if you’d like to join as a mentor, just send me an email.”
Young alumni also gathered Dec. 4 for an evening social time during the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD) convention in Tinley Park.
Another opportunity to reunite is being planned for this spring as a sporting competition at Anderson Hall, “where it all started.” More information is coming soon.
“Thanks for continuing to stay connected and for all you’re doing out in the field,” Wahl-Alexander says. “This community is strong because of all of you.”
