‘Go Beyond the Stacks’ gives directions on creating search alerts for research

Alissa Droog, Dee Anna Phares and Meredith Ayers – subject specialist librarians who serve in the College of Education – have launched “Go Beyond the Stacks: Library Tips and Tricks,” a regular feature in the Ed News with short and actionable pieces of relevant and useful information to maximize teaching, learning and research. This is the second installment.

Database search alerts automatically email you when new material is published on topics that interest you.

Set Up Search Alerts
1. Create a (free) account in the database with which you want to set up the alert.
2. Search the database for research on your topic. You want your search to return only results that interest you. If your search is too broad, you might receive frequent emails as new articles are published. If your search is too narrow, you might wait a long time before receiving an email with new publications.
3. Set up a search alert and set preferences for emails.

Set Up Email Alerts in ERIC or Academic Search Complete

On the Search results page of ERIC or Academic Search Complete, click Share and then Create an alert > Email Alert.
