‘Go Beyond the Stacks’ offers two tips for getting full text from NIU Libraries

Alissa Droog, Dee Anna Phares and Meredith Ayers – subject specialist librarians who serve in the College of Education – have launched “Go Beyond the Stacks: Library Tips and Tricks,” a regular feature in the Ed News with short and actionable pieces of relevant and useful information to maximize teaching, learning and research. This is the first installment.

Finding the full text of materials can be challenging. Here are our top two recommendations for getting the full text from NIU Libraries.

The FIND IT button (for databases)

Clicking on the FIND IT button in most of our databases should connect you to the full text of the article. If we don’t have the material, it should pre-populate an Interlibrary Loan Request Form. For more information, see Using FIND IT to access full text.

Citation Linker (for citations)

If you have the citation information for an article/book/etc., and want to see if the library has it, try Citation Linker.

Just type as much information as you can into the form and click Submit.
Citation Linker will search the library collection to see if we have the material.

It doesn’t work perfectly, but if we have the material, it should bring you to it. If we don’t have the material, Citation Linker should auto-populate an Interlibrary Loan Request Form to submit.
