Julie Bergstrom

Julie Bergstrom, B.S.Ed. Physical Education, ’98, was featured Jan. 9 by the Naperville Sun: “The Waubonsie Valley High School physical education teacher and soccer coach has a passion for everything sports-related and her career path started right in her own back yard.” Bergstrom, who played soccer for the NIU Huskies during her time in DeKalb, is celebrating her 21st year teaching and coaching for the Waubonsie Valley Warriors.

Doug Henager, B.S.Ed. Physical Education, ’12, received a Symetra’s Heroes in the Classroom award. In partnership with the NFL, Symetra Financial, a Washington state-based insurance company, awarded 16 teachers from the Chicago area in the fall of 2019. Heroes are teachers who make a real difference in lives of students, go above and beyond in their day-to-day responsibilities and help students build life skills. Henager teaches physical education at Irving Elementary School in Berwyn South School District 100.

Jenn Koeser

Jenn Koeser, M.S.Ed. Kinesiology and Physical Education, ’11, was inducted Feb. 4 into the McHenry County College Athletics Department Hall of Fame. Koeser, a three-sport athlete, played on the volleyball, women’s basketball and softball teams from 1999 to 2001. She was part of several ISCC Conference Championship teams, including the 1999 and 2001 women’s basketball champs and the 2001 softball champs. She teaches and coaches at her alma mater Woodstock High School.
