Jessie Huebner, a doctoral student in the Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision program in the Department of Counseling and Higher Education, is the International Association of Addictions & Offender Counselors (IAAOC) 2020 Graduate Student of the Year.

Huebner, who works for NIU as a clinical screener, is the interim president of the International Association of Addictions & Offender Counselors of Illinois.

She collaborated with NIU classmate Erin Bergren, who is also a Ph.D. student in the same program, to launch the Illinois chapter in the fall of 2019. The work followed encouragement from CAHE Assistant Professor Melissa Fickling.

The award from IAAOC is given annually to a graduate student who has excelled in studies related to addictions/offender treatment issues. Huebner was nominated and selected because she exemplifies professionalism within the classroom, is recognized by her peers for excellence and displays a commitment to the field of professional counseling.
