Laurie Elish-Piper, dean of the NIU College of Education, spent the last weekend of February visiting Arizona alumni and friends.

Elish-Piper joined NIU Foundation and Alumni Association leaders for several alumni networking events, including a reception hosted by NIU Foundation Board member Manny Sanchez and his wife, Pat Pulido Sanchez. The events enable NIU alums to learn about what’s going on at their alma mater, and how they can support initiatives that interest them.

The dean spoke with many College of Education alums – some of them “double Huskies,” also known as spouses both with NIU degrees – as they reminisced about their time on campus: Meeting spouses. Making lifelong friends. Favorite professors and classes. Living in residence halls.

She noted great interest in the college’s new Strategic Action Planning Framework, the topic of a recent Baker Report distributed to alums.

Attendees also met NIU President Doug Baker and heard his vision for the NIU of the future. They heard about NIU’s innovative programs and emphasis on undergraduate research. They also discovered ways to get involved with NIU from Reggie Bustinza, new executive director of the NIU Alumni Association.

More than 200 Arizona alumni gathered to watch the Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox game in Mesa as well. Watch the NIU Alumni Association website for upcoming events that might come near you!
