Chad McEvoy, chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, was quoted in a Oct. 27 article in the San Jose Mercury-News.
The article focuses on the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and the teams new Golden 1 Center area. According to the article, franchise executives are “touting the building as an architectural and technological marvel: ‘We modestly refer to it as the world’s best arena. This is really the 21st century cathedral.’ ”
However, McEvoy told the Mercury-News that it’s not technology that brings the crowds.
“I’ve never met a fan who told me he came to an arena or stadium because it has good restrooms,” said McEvoy, a professor of sport management. “The same goes for WiFi.”
